SWASAP
To advance and defend the ideal of equal educational opportunity for all TRiO eligible individuals by providing its members the guidance and support needed to foster those activities necessary to cause the target population to persist in achieving their educational goals.
Welcome to the Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs (SWASAP) website. As President of SWASAP, it is an honor and privilege to greet you.
For the past 38 years, SWASAP has advanced and defended the idea of equal opportunity education by supporting programs that identify and deliver services to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. These programs, collectively referred to as the TRiO programs, provide the guidance, instruction, and reinforcement necessary for disadvantaged students to enter and successfully complete college.
The purpose of the SWASAP association is to provide support, training, and encouragement to TRiO program professionals within the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas in an effort to strengthen their endeavor to serve the national and regional needs of the targeted population. Ours is an organization that is committed and resolved to ensuring that every student should be provided with educational opportunities.
I am privileged to be part of such a caring and dedicated organization. I encourage you to utilize this website to learn more about SWASAP, the members within it, and the students it serves. Navigate the various areas on our website to discover how the people of SWASAP work passionately to promote opportunity and success in higher education. Please continue to visit often as we will continually update and add to this website.
Thank your interest in our organization!
- Barry Lofton, SWASAP President
