Save TRiO!

July 6th, 2011

Dear TRIO Colleagues:

TRIO funding is in serious jeopardy. Our community needs to be active on all levels – from emailing Members of Congress and the White House to attending townhall meetings and speaking with your elected officials locally. Today, we are launching a petition on change.org asking Congress and the White House to protect TRIO funding and students. Please go to http://www.change.org/coe and sign this important petition and ask all of your contacts within your state to do the same (this includes TRIO staff, alumni, parents, students, friends, and family. Our goal is to have 5,000 signatures by Friday, July 22. Therefore, every signature is important! Once you have signed the petition, your congressional delegation (including both Senators and your Representative) will be contacted by change.org to let them know of your support. This is a very easy way to support your students and programs while also getting attention for TRIO in Washington, DC. Please remember, every signature counts so grab your neighbors and friends and stand up for TRIO!

COE needs to get as many signatures as possible by July 15th. If you have any questions, please contact Rheanna Martinez (Rheanna.martinez@coenet.us) at COE.

Thank you for standing up and fighting for TRIO,

Heather Valentine

Call for Nominations!

June 1st, 2011

As chairperson of the Nomination and Election Committee, I am convinced that there are hundreds of super leaders out there who could serve our SWASAP organization with great distinction. There are many of you who have graduated from the Emerging Leader Institute (ELI) and have already made a commitment to assume leadership role in your state organization and perhaps run for a SWASAP office. The time has come for you to show your colleagues how much you love this great SWASAP organization.   (Read materials below for more information.)
Sincerely,
Robert Carmouche

Urgent - President Evers’ Letter to the Membership

April 26th, 2011

Dear SWASAP Members:

As you may know, I have had the extreme pleasure of attending four of our five state conferences over the last few weeks.  I have enjoyed speaking with all of you and your hospitality is second to none.  I want to thank TASSSP, ODSA, NM/WTASAP and LASAP for hosting me.  I am looking forward to visiting with AASAP members in the fall.

As you may already know, the United States Senate and House of Representatives voted yes on a bill that is going to cut TRiO programs very deeply.  TRiO sustained a cut of 26.6 million dollars for Fiscal Year 2011.  This was a huge blow to our community!  I want you to know that we as a community have to continue the fight.  (click here to see/print letter in it’s entirety.)
